- Collaboration: We prioritize the importance of working together, building trust, and leveraging diverse skills to achieve shared goals.
- Sustainability: Building a better future for our society and the environment is central to who we are and how we operate.
Our Company
Our story began with the installation of the first licensed tidal power project in the United States. Our groundbreaking Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy (RITE) project not only showcased the potential of tidal energy but also laid the groundwork for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve the project, granting us a ten-year grid-connected operating license in New York City’s East River.
Throughout the course of the RITE project, we successfully navigated the complex regulatory, environmental, economic, governmental, and stakeholder qualification standards. The levels of achievement realized across the various operational segments marked a significant leap toward building our business acumen in marine energy project development and positioning us to share our expertise and knowledge through the launch of our advisory services branch of the company.
Since the successful implementation of the RITE project, Verdant Power has expanded its project development portfolio both in the US and worldwide. Additionally, with our vast 20 years of experience in marine renewable energy, Verdant Power has curated a team of highly skilled professionals to spearhead our advisory services and project development initiatives. We invite collaboration from a diverse range of clients to collectively drive optimal outcomes in marine energy innovation.

Projects
Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy (RITE) Project
The RITE Project was the first commercially licensed tidal power initiative in the United States, located in the East Channel of New York City’s East River. Using Verdant Power’s Free Flow System—featuring their fifth-generation (Gen5) tidal turbines—and TriFrame™ Mount, the project successfully harnessed tidal currents to generate clean energy.
Key achievements include:
- First Commercial License: Obtained a 10-year Hydrokinetic Pilot Project License from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and a 401 Water Quality Certification from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
- Technological Milestones: Reached Technology Readiness Level 9 and became the first tidal turbine system to receive third-party performance verification under the IECRE System.
- Industry Recognition: Awarded the National Hydropower Association’s 2021 Outstanding Stewards of America’s Waters (OSAW) Award.
The project was successfully decommissioned in 2021 after meeting its operational goals.
Morlais Development Zone
The Morlais Development Zone is an ambitious tidal-stream energy project off the coast of Holy Island, Anglesey in Wales, UK, with the potential to generate up to 240 MW of clean electricity. Developed by Menter Môn in partnership with the Welsh government and other stakeholders, the project aims to benefit local communities, boost the economy, and support the transition to renewable energy.
Key aspects of the project include:
- Phased Implementation: Beginning with a 5 MW pilot project, Verdant Power is conducting resource assessments and front-end engineering design to prepare for larger deployments.
- Contracts for Difference (CfD): In September 2023, Verdant Isles Ltd was awarded a 5 MW CfD under the UK Government’s Allocation Round 5, ensuring financial support for the initial phase.
