Ronald Smith
Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Ron Smith leads company management and operations. He has over 30 years of experience and accomplishment as an entrepreneur, a management consultant and as a manager in industry with such firms as Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Bendix Corporation and the U.S. Navy. He also has facilitated strategic planning workshops at senior executive levels in commercial organizations and in major Federal agencies such as the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Aviation Administration. Mr. Smith retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Commander and naval intelligence officer. He served seven years on U.S. Navy active duty as a carrier pilot in Vietnam and as an organizational development consultant to Navy units, commands and staffs.

William “Trey” Taylor
Co-Founder and President

Trey Taylor directs marketing and business development efforts. He has over 30 years experience in business management and development, marketing and communications. He founded and served as President of the Interactive Marketing Institute, worked with BGE (Baltimore Gas & Electric) and Price Waterhouse World Utilities Group, and has held senior positions at Edison Electric Institute (U.S. Committee for Energy Awareness), ITT Corporation, British Telecom, Ogilvy & Mather and Procter & Gamble. Mr. Taylor served on the Board of Directors for the Hydro Research Foundation, on the Advisory Board and as Chairman of the R&D Committee for the National Hydropower Association, as a Charter Board Member of the Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition, and on the Planning Committee for the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE).

Kevin Lynch
Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer

Kevin Lynch has over 30 years of experience in financial areas including taxation, accounting, budgeting and controls. In the emerging marine renewable energy sector, he has developed a recognized expertise in the development of cost models for in-stream technologies. He serves as the head of the Finance Committee of the Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition.

Dean Corren
Director of Marine Current Technology

Dean Corren holds 30 years of experience in the fields of energy research and systems design. As a Research Scientist for the New York University Department of Applied Science, Mr. Corren was responsible for all areas of energy research from theory through model tests and full scale prototypes. During this time, he designed a high-efficiency submerged kinetic hydropower turbine, which became the central design for Verdant Power’s Kinetic Hydropower System (Free Flow System). He has also served four terms in the Vermont House of Representatives and chaired the Burlington Electric Commission, which governs Vermont’s largest public utility.

Dan Costin, PE, PhD
Chief Engineer

Dan Costin has over 20 years experience in project and functional management, as well as design and analysis of mechanical systems, with patents awarded for rotating equipment and wind turbine design. At Northern Power Systems, a developer and manufacturer of wind turbines, Dr. Costin oversaw blade and generator mechanical design for a 100kW wind turbine, as well as mechanical design and testing of a 1.5 MW generator. He has also served as a Senior Engineer for General Dynamics in Fort Worth, TX, and as Manager, Advanced Mechanical Technology for BorgWarner in Chicago, IL.

Mary Ann Adonizio, PE
Director of Resource Assessment

Mary Ann Adonizio oversees Verdant Power’s resource assessment and site analysis activities, including management of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance. Ms. Adonizio is an independent consultant with 30 years of experience in electric utility capital project implementation – construction, operation and maintenance for small hydroelectric and transmission projects in the 46-138kV class. In addition, she provides feasibility and financial/economic planning; regulatory licensing and permitting; and environmental risk management services for renewable energy projects. She is the co-author of several technical publications for EPRI and ASCE on the waterpower industry, and also facilitates content for conferences and seminars.

Mark J. Tinkler, B. Eng, M.A.Sc
Director of Project Development & Management – Canada

Mark Tinkler oversees Verdant Power’s CORE Project in the St. Lawrence River in Ontario, Canada. Over a 29 year career at Ontario Hydro/Ontario Power Generation, he held a number of technical and management positions, including Manager of Distributed Generation Technologies, and Senior Advisor – Corporate Strategic Planning with responsibility for OPG’s strategic technology RD&D activities. Mr. Tinkler provides consulting services to the energy sector regarding new and emerging energy options and technologies, including distributed generation, energy storage, renewable energy, and energy from waste streams. He is also the Technology Coordinator for the Strategic Options for Sustainable Power Generation Interest Group of CEATI International, with utility and energy sector participants from across Canada and the US.
