Jameel Ahmad, Ph.D.
Professor & Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering; Albert Nerken School of Engineering, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art
Dr. Ahmad is a Verdant Power Senior Advisor and is the inventor of Verdant Power’s patented Rapid Flow System, as well as other patent-pending flow acceleration and energy extraction technologies for use in man-made channels. Dr. Ahmad has published over 100 professional papers, made presentations in multiple engineering disciplines, and has numerous patents. He has been awarded the Abdus Salam Medal for a distinguished career in research (engineering sciences) by the Pakistan League of America, and the Rossi Prize for distinguished research by The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science & Art. Dr. Ahmad received his BS from the University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan, his MS from the University of Hawaii, and his Ph. D. from the University of Pennsylvania – all in Civil Engineering.

George Basile, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President and Senior Scientist, The Natural Step
At The Natural Step, Dr. Basile has been deeply involved in organizational strategy, consulting services and research, both in the US and internationally. He has overseen the creation of the Sustainability Research Group. He has also helped broaden the areas of relevance for sustainable enterprise at The Natural Step to include social science, organizational change theory, cognitive science and evolutionary design. In addition, he advises the management of Fortune 500 companies and large organizations on how to integrate sustainability strategies into their global corporate competitiveness initiatives. He received his undergraduate training in Physics at UC, Irvine and his doctorate in Biophysics from UC, Berkeley.

Kim Chaffee
Regional Sales Manager for Land Instruments International
Mr. Chaffee supports process and environmental monitoring in utility and industrial plants. He received his BA from Harvard College in Engineering & Applied Physics, and his MS and PhD Candidacy (ABD) from UC, Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering/ Automatic Control Systems.

John Miller, PE
Senior Engineering Consultant
Mr. Miller specializes in hydroelectric power development from initial planning through design, construction and operation. His experience includes work with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the US Army Corps of Engineers, Allston Power and Synergics. Mr. Miller holds an MS in Civil Engineering, with a focus on water resources and planning.

Bill Moore
Principal, Atlantic Renewable Energy Corporation
Mr. Moore is responsible for projects in New York, as well as all company real estate and project financing. Prior to this post, he developed wind energy projects for EnergyWorks, co-managing the development, financing and eventual sale of the Costa Rican 24 MW Tierras Morenas and the 6.4 MW AeroEnergia wind projects. He holds a BA in Economics and an MBA from Yale University.

Kristen A. Nelson
Communications Consultant
Ms. Nelson provides writing, production, and management expertise on issues of energy, transportation, the environment and international economic development. In her previous work she managed public relations at the Edison Electric Institute. She holds an MS in International Business and Finance from Johns Hopkins.

As Co-Founder and Principal of Kearns & West, Ms. West leads a consulting firm that is nationally recognized in the world of hydropower licensing and permitting. She has actively facilitated communication and information sharing between State, City, and National licensing and permitting agencies.
